How do I know what to do during worship?
The bulletins we print each Sunday include everything you need to know about the order and flow of the service. We also project words for hymns, prayers and the various spoken responses so you don’t have to worry about missing anything. We also use different musical settings throughout the year; depending upon the season. Our praise band also plays at different times throughout the year during our Sunday services. Everything that is said by the congregation is printed in bold print.
What about children?
Children are welcome in our worship service. There are activity bags available for them that include some things for them to do and a small snack.
Who is welcome at communion?
Communion is not a reward. It is not a privilege for the righteous. It is an invitation to God’s table where Jesus is the host. If you come as a guest, you are welcome to share this meal with us. You do not need to be a member to receive this gift from God to you. White grape juice and gluten free wafers are available.
We practice “open communion” at Trinity. Everyone who is baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and believes that Christ is truly present and gives us what he promised in the sacrament, namely the forgiveness of sins, is welcome at the Lord’s Table. We commune adults and children who commune in their home congregations. Children who do not yet commune are welcome to come forward for a blessing.
Each year, during Lent, we have a time of communion instruction for all who are at least in the 3rd grade. After this instruction and with prayerful family discussions, parents may encourage their children to celebrate their First Communion. First Communion is celebrated as part of our Maundy Thursday service.
What do I go forward for communion?
Ushers will stand at the end of the row and let people know when they can come forward. The pastor and communion assistant(s) will distribute the bread and wine (or white grape juice-if you’re not sure, don’t hesitate to ask). Children who are to receive communion may indicate that by putting out their hand. When you have received the bread and wine you can return to your seat by the side aisle depositing the disposable communion cup in the tray at each side.
Are there restrooms?
Yes, there are restrooms located in a number of places throughout the building. Any member of the congregation would be more than happy to help you find what you need. For those with limited mobility, the elevator will take you to the Education wing where additional restrooms can be found.
How do I become a member?
Trinity welcomes new members. To become a member is simple. Just let the pastor know that you want to join Trinity and he’ll give you a new member form to fill out. Anyone who attends a few times a year and makes a contribution of record can become a member. (That’s what we ask of people who are members.)
If you decide that you would like to make your relationship with the congregation formal, know that you don’t need to be a life-long Lutheran, just someone seeking a closer relationship with Jesus. Since, each person has something unique that has brought them to Trinity, instead of classes in history and doctrine; we like to do what Jesus did… share time together. This can be as formal or informal as you wish, but it will give you an opportunity for you to ask your questions (even if they are about history and doctrine) and share your stories. Your name(s) are then presented at the next regular council meeting and then we pick a day to formally introduce you to the congregation.
